Jon Addo Barrows Memorial Page

Jon Addo Barrows, born in El Paso, Texas, on 25 November 1941 to Addo Clarence Barrows, Jr., and Sue Council Barrows, died from congestive heart failure on 6 January 2008 in Phoenix, Arizona. He is survived by sons Jon Justin Barrows, Frederick Laurence Barrows and Addo Clarence Barrows, III, daughter-in-law Patricia Marie James Barrows and Grandsons Simon Greydon Barrows and Finnian Archer Barrows. Jon moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1954, graduating from Madison 1 Elementary School in 1955, from North High School in 1959, and from Arizona State University with a BS in Accounting in 1969. From 1962 to 1966 he served four illustrious and exemplary years in the United States Navy, primarily on the USS Charr, SS-328, in the Vietnam theatre. He was a certified public accountant, working for Touche Ross & Co. upon graduation from ASU, before becoming the audit partner at Bolan, Vassar and Barrows in 1971 and at Barrows & Co. from 1988 until his retirement in 1997. During his career he served on prominent state and national accounting committees focused on ethics and professional standards. He was an avid book collector, sailor, golfer, fisherman, camper and a very proud and vocal fan of the ASU baseball and football programs. In both time and finances, he was a generous supporter of the ASU accounting department and athletic teams. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, 19 January 2008 at 11:00 am, at Trinity Cathedral, 100 West Roosevelt in Phoenix, Arizona.
